The project began in 2019 as a result of an analysis carried out within a participatory process promoted by the Hospitalet City Council in 2018. This process brought together entities, neighbors and neighbors to analyze the Florida – Las Planes neighborhood where the site on which we operate is located within the project. The space was in a state of abandonment for the last 20 years very high feels a point of incivism, drug use and violence.

In the first place, we established a project monitoring commission made up of educational centers in the neighborhoods adjacent to the site (Florida-Las Planes and Sant Josep), entities, administration, neighbors and neighbors. This commission detects deficiencies and projects the uses that we want to give the site. Once the space has been analyzed, we project the elements that allow us to carry out this program of activities jointly with the members of the committee, students from the educational centers, volunteers, etc.

Each element and improvement of the space is co-designed, built and maintained in a community way by all the groups of participants and volunteers of the project. During 2020 the commission decides the urgent construction of an ecological cultural center in the park that will serve as a space to carry out cultural, educational and leisure activities as well as a laboratory to continue improving the park.

Methodology

Ecological cultural center

The MODUL cultural & ecological center was built in 2020 to make the Park a more resilient space that responds to the challenges and needs of the territory. This space creates new opportunities in the territory, gives us a physical space to promote innovative community processes and create new work networks for community well-being and access to culture, education or leisure.

MODUL is a flexible and innovative center that works as multidisciplinary equipment and adapts to the uses we need at all times. It has been designed with the project’s monitoring commission and begins to host educational, leisure and cultural activities in November 2020.

It has a multipurpose room, a workshop, a patio and a warehouse and works only by solar energy. The façade is made only with reused wood from other buildings and benches that had been removed from public space.
